Pastor on sex charge

A CHURCH elder in Popondetta, Northern, was arrested and charged by police with seven counts of sexual touching on Feb 20.
He is expected to appear in court tomorrow by which time police expect to lay additional charges of production of and possessing pornographic images.
Northern police commander Supt Victor Isouve said police recovered a camera, some phones and a computer in the possession of the churchman containing hundreds of images of naked local women and explicit pornographic images downloaded from the internet.
Isouve said 15 girls attending primary and secondary schools were identified from the images but only seven girls came forward to cooperate with police, resulting in the churchman being charged with seven
He said those interviewed revealed that they were asked by the suspect to undress, lie down on the bed where he would rub olive oil on their breasts and private parts.
He is reported to have told the girls that he was ordained to purify them with olive oil.
The girls also admitted to being photographed naked, Isouve said.
All the girls interviewed said there was no sexual intercourse involved, Isouve said.
“He is charged with seven counts of sexual touching pursuant to Section 229 (b) of the Criminal Code.
“We will be charging him with other charges of producing and being in charge of pornographic images pursuant to 228 of the criminal code.”
The churchman has been refused bail for his own safety as many parents are said to be very angry at the treatment of their daughters. He is held at the Popondetta police cells.
The elder has been discharged from his job since Dec last year and was awaiting his final entitlements.
“I am calling on young girls and women not be enticed by pastors or reverends from purification ministries or whatever,” Isouve said.
