the discounters work fine 95% of the time during normal conditions. The breakdown occures during the first 10 minutes of trading on a day like today or last August 16. Maybe 4 or 5 times a year when rank panic decends on large blocks of securities and tons of money can be made with a little luck and a lot of balls. glad you had more luck than me today.
Yeah, that's a tough situation, with all the volatility. It's kind of hard to tell where you are in line on something as thin as APU. I have hit some low-balls, but not on a day like this that I can recall. Capt. is probably right that those who pay for the privilege jump the other claims. I guess the land of opportunity also includes the opportunity to get screwed while the paulson's of the world take care of their own. Here's to better times and better executions.
Last summer when I was trying to get out of ACG, the market makers set the bid price consistently below my limit. As soon as I cancelled the trade, the MM's would allow trades to go through above my sell limit. I called Ameritrade, my broker, and they agreed that the MM was working against me. It was pretty clear.
Ameritrade's position = file a complaint with the SEC. My position = one small voice isn't going to change anything.
