IDC: PC Sales Drop 14% Last Quarter

Last week IDC announced that PC shipments dropped a whopping 14% worldwide last quarter

Naw, nobody is using tablets or smart phones.

This is the same nonsense we heard 30 years ago: "Nobody will use a PC for serious computing..."

Hang on tight to that stock you all! Thanks to Carly, HP has massive exposure in the PC market.

    • look at capex spending for the last year - that's where PC sales has gone. No one is refreshing servers, no one is refreshing desktops (which most corporations and govt offices still use for 'real work'). INTC just cut their spending by what, 2B? You don't cut like that and buy your people new machines...

    • lol....and this is a person (ex-ceo) that cnbc drags on screen to offer advice or explanation as if she has business acumen and or *expertise*

    • billy,

PC was first introduced in 1982, about 30 years ago, as toys for hobbyists and games. Then along came the 8088 and viscal. The rest is history.

Today's issue is different, it is about diminishing market shares of PCs in people's home. In my case, I have a PC at the corner of the room that I have not turned on for almost a year, a laptop and a MacBook in their cases, used once or twice, a note book somewhere and a mini-notebook with my grandkid's programs hooked up to the TV.hmdi slot. No plan to buy another PC any time soon. (I did replace my sony eReader with Kindle last Christmas.)
