TD never advertised this but really only suckers pay the $9.99/trade. If you trade a lot, it's very easy to ask them to cut the commission down. I used to pay $9.99 years ago, then I told them that I'm switching to Scottrade so they cut the fee to $7.00. Then after a few months I told them that I'm switching to sogotrade and they cut my commission to $4/trade. I do trade at least 4 times a day. But you don't have to trade that many times. My friend who traded probably just a few times per week, got the fee cut to $7.
You have nothing to lose, just tell them that you are switching to other broker and they'll gladly match it or at least try to. They won't match sogotrade's fee however but that's fine, only $1 difference.
Wow just today I got a courtesy call from AMTD to inform me that they were increasing the margin rate. I asked why with interest rates at alltime lows. No good answer. I dont trade on margin but 9% sounds like a credit card. I have been with this company from the Waterhouse days but I may be switching soon. Some companies just dont get it.
