I'm absolutely delighted that there are individuals out there who passionately believe in and defend their positions with gusto and vigor. Why?
Because every time I decide to enter or exit a position, be it long or short, I desperately need individuals who have a diametrically opposite view to the one I'm holding at the time of the transaction. In fact, the more the better.
If you have found a way to enter in and exit from securities without a counter-party whose thinking is 180 degrees from your thinking, please let us all know.
Ah, someone who FINALLY understand that we can agree to disagree without lowering ourselves to name calling! How refreshing. You ignore someone at your own peril, just because that person may be stating something you do not feel is write, is no reason to ignore them....I think that is how we got into two wars during the Bush administration!
All sides are welcome, just leave out the lowly comments. This is investing, not a love affair.
The unfortunate fallacy in that thinking is that these folks actually hold positions, long or short, in the stock. 99% don't, nor do they intend to, IMHO. They are simply paid spammers whose job it is to drive the price down by fear-mongering (not to be confused with fish-mongering, a noble profession). Sometimes when a new "personality" arrives and posts what is clearly going to be the beginning of a spam campaign, I address the fact that its nonsense and then *PLONK* them. That way, newbies are aware that what these personalities have to say is nonsense, without any basis in fact.
On the otherhand, there are a few with contrarian views who actually provide facts for their positions and logically explain their views and opinions. Those I appreciate as a reality check.
I've been preaching the gospel of *plonk* for about as long as I've been involved with financial message boards.
I think every long goes through a period of believing it's *necessary* to take on the bashers, that without countering their BS there are all these poor ignorant investors who will be misdirected into making massive donations to the shorts' brokerage accounts. I was like that once. Now I have more respect for the longs, most of which do not post at all and IMO already have a fairly sensitive BS meter; I no longer worry so much about them. I worry a lot more about the hours I'd be wasting by "wrestling with the pigs", lol.
So, thank you for reminding everyone about the iggy button.
