This is not some new sinister plan that SBUX is suddenly assimilating GMCR. Queen Howie just has to be in the limelight. Suddenly he thinks he's the expert on single serve coffee, when in fact he is late to the game and GMCR has been executing this concept flawlessly since 2006.
There are Tullys locations that in no way could claim to be profitable. And there are some stores that are on enviable sites. Perhaps a sharp management team from SBUX is what GMCR requires. Eliminate wasteful locations. Increase efficiency in the remaining sites.
