    "Records violations ensnare housing nominee
Office handed largest fine in U.S. history
    By Jerry Seper
    Thursday, May 7, 2009

President Obama's choice for the government's No. 2 housing job is embroiled in the largest fine in U.S. history for "blatant violations" of open records laws after the Washington State Supreme Court chastised his office for withholding documents detailing taxpayer costs for a new professional football stadium in Seattle.

The documents that Ronald Sims' office was found to have kept from the public when he served as King County executive included information about cheaper alternatives to the $430 million Seattle Seahawks stadium, which was built in 2002, according to a Washington Times review of the court records.

Washington's highest court ruled in January that the withheld documents would have allowed voters in a referendum to challenge "the veracity" of King County's request for $300 million in public bonds for the project. The justices found the actions of Mr. Sims' office to be so "egregious" that they scrapped a lower court's order of a $123,780 fine - the largest ever assessed in a public records case - and recommended that the penalty be increased to as much as $825,000.

Mr. Obama nominated Mr. Sims as the top deputy at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) just three weeks after the court's ruling, which harshly and repeatedly criticized Mr. Sims' office for its conduct during a 12-year legal fight.

If confirmed, Mr. Sims would help manage billions of federal dollars set aside for building, maintaining and operating public housing inside a government agency with a history of misspending and corruption. A Senate committee last week forwarded Mr. Sims' nomination to the full Senate without asking the nominee a single question.

    • Dummy.. Just to remind you. LImbaugh was the fellow that said he hopes Obama fails. Tantamount to saying he hopes that the economic downturn continues. That the number of Americans out of work continues to swell. That housing values cont to decline. Kinda like you, huh.

Now a retired fathead like yourself might not care about your fellow Americans. And a fat-head flabber jabber like Limbaugh might not either. Just most 'thinking' Americans do care. Republicans, Democrats and Independents.

    • Dummy dont know. But I wouldnt expect anything less from the fellow that feasts on his own vomit and swills it down with his piss. Dummy you give new meaning to self deluded love.

The Democrats just love Rush. Having the real head of Republicans be a drug addicted shock jock Con couldnt be scripted better. Now former VP Cheney is whining. And the two of them are taking pot shots at the only publicly respected Republican former Sec of State, Gen Powell.

Keep rooting em on, Dummy. Keep it coming.

    • the mistakes keep mounting. When the Obama administration crashes and burns, with approval ratings that fall through the floor, political scientists can trace its demise to its first hundred days. While Americans are careful not to consign a presidency they desperately need to succeed to the dustbin of history, the fact is that this president has moved — on issue after issue — in precisely the opposite direction of what the people want him to do. Right now, Obama’s ratings must be pleasing to his eye. Voters like him and his wife immensely and approve of his activism in the face of the economic crisis. While polls show big doubts about what he is doing, the overwhelming sense is to let him have his way and pray that it works. But beneath this superficial support, Obama’s specific policies run afoul of the very deeply felt convictions of American voters. Voters are “satisfied” with his first hundred days but prefer a smaller government with fewer services over a larger government that provides more. And most people think government spending, under Obama, is “out of control.” If voters differ so fundamentally with the president on the very essence of his program, why do they give him high ratings? They are like the recently married bride who took her vows 100 days ago. It would be a disaster for her life if she decides that she really doesn’t like her husband. But she keeps noticing things about him that she can’t stand. It will be a while before she walks out the door or even comes to terms with her own doubts, but it is probably inevitable that she will. For Americans to conclude that they disapprove of their president in the midst of an earth-shaking crisis is very difficult. But as Obama’s daily line moves from “I inherited this mess” to “There are faint signs of light,” the clock starts ticking. If there is no recovery for the next six months Obama will become part of the problem, not the solution. And then will come his heavy lifting. He has yet to raise taxes, regiment healthcare or provide amnesty for illegal immigrants. He hasn’t closed down the car companies he now runs and he has not yet forced a 50 percent hike in utility bills with his cap-and-trade legislation. These are all the goodies he has in store for us all. Obama’s very activism these days arrogates to himself the blame for the success or failure of his policies. Their outcome will determine his outcome, and there is no way it will be positive.

    • Mold... vermin... whatever. I don't know what's been going on in the food processing business no matter what it happens to be, or where it is being packaged... there's something radically wrong and it's obvious government isn't doing anything for the safety of consumers. Dog food was claimed many pets. That sad emergency seems to have passed for now. If it comes to people having to eat dog food, at least we're well stocked up for a while.

    • If you happen to have any Snickers candy at home, check these numbers.

      1. Best before: 908 AN

      2. The scan bar numbers: 0 40000 15146 3

I opened a bag of them a few days ago. Inside were three already opened fun sized bars with teeth marks in them and about 3/4 eaten. The marks were small and looked like they had been gnawd at by a rodent.

I called the Mars Candy people and they simply told me that they would send me a coupon for another bag and told me they would send a mailing bag for me to send back to them so they could test the contents.

Does that make sense to anyone? The original large bag they were in was perfectly sealed and I could find no holes or opening along the seem. When they offered a coupon for a free bag, I told them my stomach was still turning and didn't plan on eating them anymore. FYA

    • But what if Limbaugh, white talk show host, goes on the air and says that Sykes, black comedian, is about half-a-terrorist and that, oh by the way, he hopes she dies? Is he allowed to say he's just an entertainer, and tell everybody to lighten up?

    • Re: NOW with NO AMUNITION the issue of GUNS will become MOOT! :(

Yo duck... that's the main thrust of the current campaign. But these things take time and there are lots and lots more things in the works before total confiscation will take place. For instance... BO has a plan where all bullets would have an ID number stamped on them. Ridiculous as that is, that what he's trying to get passed. Of course that would just close down the manufacturing process of ammunition. It would take forever to comply with something so stupid and costly and time consuming that it would cost a FORTUNE to manufacture it! That's the WHOLE IDEA!!! Do you realize how INSANE this administration really is?!!! They have absolute dedicated crackpots who believe in total CONTROL AND POWER over the masses of people. Do people even know that Socialism, Marxist style is COMMUNISM? The IQ due to the 'Dumming Down Of Ammerica' is hopelessly lower than ever. People are so unable to 'think' anymore. They've been turned into obedient robots who only respond to suggestive commands that enter the brain through signals directed at them electronically by way of their 'boobtoob'. People really don't intentionally 'LISTEN' to commercials and speeches and hear every word. The simply ingest the suggestions unconsciously through sound and pictures that have been tested for a specific purpose. It's ADVERTISING that's become an exact science and is proven to work almost 100%. If it isn't one thing, it's another. In other words... if they don't get you in the wash, they'll get you in the rinse.
