(RTTNews) - Turkcell Iletisim Hizmetleri AS (TKC), a provider of mobile communications services in Turkey, said Wednesday that its fourth quarter earnings increased 39% over last year, helped by 50% growth in revenue. Net income for the fourth quarter was US$403.2 million, up 39% from US$289.6 million in the prior year quarter. Earnings per share rose to US$0.18 from US$0.13 in the year-ago quarter. The company's revenue soared 50% to US$1.8 billion from US$1.2 billion in the same quarter last year. Gross profit for the latest quarter was US$958.4 million or 53% of revenue, up from US$541.3 million or 45% of revenue in the previous year quarter. Average revenue per user or ARPU grew 31% to US$15.5 from US$11.8 in the previous year quarter, driven by lower incentives utilized during the quarter, combined with the 18.5% appreciation of the TRY against the US$ and the average price increase of 12.7% on an annual basis. Churn rate increased 1.5 percentage points to 5.9% from 4.4% in the fourth quarter of 2006, due to prepaid involuntary churn triggered by high subscriber acquisitions in previous quarters with the churners being mainly low ARPU generating prepaid subscribers. Total number subscribers for the latest quarter rose 11.3% to 35.4 million from 31.8 million in last year. The company added about 593 thousand net new subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2007. On February 27, 2008, Turkcell's board decided to recommend distribution of cash dividend of about TRY648.7 million or about US$546.0 million, representing a 14% increase over last year. For the full year 2007, net income was US$1.35 billion or US$0.61 per share, compared to US$875.5 million or US$0.39 per share in the previous year.
