    Ted Reed-Emirates

" In its battle to prevent American (AAMRQ) and US Airways (LCC_) from merging, the Justice Department is fighting the last war.

Want proof? Consider Emirates' Airlines recent announcements that it will begin Milan-New York service in October and Dubai-Boston service in March, two more indications of Emirates' breathtaking growth.

The Dubai-based carrier will provide passengers at Boston Logan International Airport with another option to reach dozens of international destinations, a benefit for them. Its Milan-New York service will add a fifth option on a route that appears to have ample service. That may be good for somebody, but it is unclear who.

BS that our government has damaged and disadvantaged our airline industry, the DOj suit and sequester the latest in a long history... BTW- Ted Reed is excellent in following the industry and the DOJ suit.

    • I can see how Emirates could matter "on the margins" to a few destinations, but really this is no material threat to the USA airlines. The geography is all wrong -- most Asia destinations are better reached from the USA by heading across the Pacific or going polar. And there's the whole Arab thing; I'm sorry, but most Americans are going to prefer a non-Middle East stopover on an Arab airline.

      • Majority of 'y' traffic on emiritaes to dubai continues on to pakistan and india.business travelers in business or first class. Connecting traffic out of dubai to many central asia and and african cities also available. Emiratres growth from the us has been quite substansial...good service results in good loads something lcc has yet to realize.

        Sentiment: Strong Sell

    • Emirates has a distinct advantage in that their govt gives them the a/c.Have noticed lcc and aas major shrink in bos. When did they file for Bos -Dxb? Jfk-mil Haven't noticed Aa filing for the service from their mega hub Neither LCc or Aa offers service anywhere equal to emirates, Both trash carriers with emirates offering supremely excellent..at reasonable fares.

      Sentiment: Strong Sell
