"Far less than it will cost not to build it. "
do you work for the government?
or a company that specilaizes in the manufacture of high speed rails? would that make you chinese?
so many questions!
High speed rail would be nice, and we are behind the rest of the world in terms of this type of efficient travel. BUT, our environmental movement would have a hissy fit over the land needed and the tear up to the land. China and Europe face none of that. Hell, we can't even drill for our own oil without 5000 pages of paperwork. Also, no new mines here in 4 years, despite large reserves of everything in the ground. Everything imported thanks to this administration and power of environmental groups. Did you know the Prius is the most environmentaly unfriendly car every build due to the massive hole needed for the rare earth elements contained in the car? We are messed up.
"Trains are not the answer. Why would you go 200 mph on a train when you can go 500+ on a plane?"
Jet fuel scarcity.
You think we know something that Europe and China doesn't, but I think you're wrong. Our lack of high speed rail, and their abundance of it, is going to contribute heavily to our relegation to economic also ran status.
The free market works quite well. People will adjust as gas prices continue to rise. They will buy smaller cars or drive less or some combination of the two. Either that or they will give up other things (Starbucks, eating out, smoking) in order to pay for the $10 gas.
