Fair enough, Jamok. This is kinda like saying Krispy Kreme don't know how to make donuts but they still can corner the market. I personally think people are expecting too much from EA, that they must make good, successful and quality products when they're already at the front line where one's ability to improve and innovate technologically artistically graphically and digitally is concerned. But I can live with it. ;-)
Perhaps my meaning got lost in my funnin' - it was neither an indictment of ERTS nor a subjective opinion. The game mags absolutely *hated* the first Bond, they were so disappointed by the lack of a playable game. In a subtle way, it shows ERTS strength: Through marketing and synergy with the concurrent movie release (can bullsh*t boy say sy-ner-gy? Very good!), they turned a very poor game into a big money maker. But their greater strength is that suck bin ware is the exception rather than the rule - most of the products they put out are top quality, addictive-as-crack masterpieces, which people are willing to buy anew each year for incremental improvements. The Moron(s) who don't get this always call it wrong, and say this year people won't pay for NFL 2004.5.6.7 or The Sims Dysfunctional Family. Nor do they get that ERTS has so many potential revenue streams that one hit or one flop doesn't make a whole lot of difference either way, as Riccotello himself said, and correctly so. In fact, flops sometimes lead to hits - Alice was much touted, and sank with little fanfare after it's release. I personally liked it, but that's irrelevant. Apparently EA believe in American Magee (the author), because there's another game by him in the works, and unlike bullsh*t boy, he may learn from his misteps ;-)
