Battlefield 3 Premium Passes 800,000 Members
Milestone achieved in only two weeks.

EA confirmed today that more than 800,000 people have purchased Battlefield 3 Premium. The milestone was passed during the service’s first two weeks of availability, making the possibility of similar services in the future look “very promising” according to EA Games executive vice president Patrick Soderlund.

"We are very pleased with the performance so far," Soderlund told USA Today. "We're actually only two weeks into it, so it's a little early to tell how this is going to pay off. It certainly it looks very promising right now."
Battlefield 3 Premium was announced during E3 and is available for a one-time payment of $50. It offers early access to downloadable content at no additional cost and members can also access unique in-game weapons, priority servers, double XP weekends and new dog tags. Due to EA’s exclusive deal with Sony, the service was available one week early on PlayStation 3 before expanding to Xbox 360 and PC.

Battlefield 3’s Close Quarters add-on was released earlier this month. The game’s next expansion, Armored Kill, is on the way in September followed by Aftermath in December and End Game in March 2013.

that means it could affect earnings by about 12 cents or so for the current quarter. The analysts that were predicting a 40 cent loss for the quarter made their estimates before premium was even announced so this could help them surprise to the upside.
