America’s most popular car gets poor safety ratings: Report

Not new news, but fun to report!

The Toyota Camry, America's most popular car based on sales, fared poorly in a new crash test from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The most popular car in America based on sales — the Toyota Camry — fared poorly in a new crash test from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The group, which is funded by the insurance industry, tested several new family sedans that include the Camry, Ford Fusion and Honda Accord, reports CNN.

The cars, 18 different models in all, were put through a new type of front crash test in which a car strikes a crash barrier with just a small part of the front bumper on the driver's side. It's a tough test, since it concentrates impact forces into a small area, CNN said.

The two cars that scored worst, earning a "Poor" rating, were the Toyota Camry and the Toyota Prius V hybrid wagon.

    • you should drive Honda Accord

    • Yea, but the Honda Accord and the Suzuki Kizashi beat all the rest. If you agree with that test, you should applause Honda Accord and Suzuki Kizashi and none of GM or Ford are on "Acceptable" list. This is the lists from that CNN news.

      Honda Accord
      Suzuki Kizashi

      "Acceptable" rating:
      Kia Optima
      Nissan Altima and Maxima
      Subaru Legacy and Outback
      Dodge Avenger
      Chrysler 200
      Volkswagen Passat.

      "Marginal" the second-worst possible rating
      Hyundai Sonata
      Chevrolet Malibu
      Volkswagen Jetta sedan

      Toyota Camry
      Toyota Prius

      Sentiment: Strong Sell
