Resisting recalls cost even more. According to the analysts, in the past TM refused to do recalls because they think their problems are not that critical. Now they are stepping up aggressively with the recalls which could save TM more money in the long run, it could dampen the reputation, but they are willing to take that risk. How many people really bring there car in when they get the recall notice? Recalls are CYA - cover your ..... I think the smart thing to do, especially from a legal standpoint. That's why many times the stock price goes up when there is a recall. It is telling everyone that TM "really cares" for its customers.
