I've always been interested where superstitions come from. Like: walking under a ladder is supposed to be bad luck.
In the case of your superstitions, those were started by pre-bronze age nomadic tribesmen that would sit around a campfire throwing blocks of hashish into it. It must have been cute to watch these people, who couldn't even figure out where rain came from and thought lighting came from the fingers of some invisible "creature" that lived in the sky.
What is even more interesting is that Zeus carried the lightning concept for another 2 or 3 millenia.. It seems likely that your god may just go the same way as Zeus.
