I see a lot of negative (biased) media coverage against Japanese companies in the US
They never made "better" products, they like Apple made "popular" products which have nothing to do with quality since common people dont know anything about tech quality and just want to look cool. In the 90s, the cool company was Sony, now its Apple. The problem with Sony is that they did not adjust when they lost popularity just like Apple refused to adjust back in the late 80s-90s (which almost put them out of business and resulted in the virtual firing of Jobs). Apple was lucky to survive and probably would not have survived if Jobs had stayed at CEO back then. Sony is in the same position now. Heads need to roll. They need to survive the next 5-10 years so that the popularity pendulum will swing back their way. Apple is already losing its coolness and has been for about 2 years. I am not sure what company will be the next cool thing but this is what trends are all about.
My guess right now is that it will be MS for a few reasons (none of which apply to me personally since I dont buy their products nor the others), #1 the xbox is poised to dominate the next gen console race due to Sony weakness and the long life cycle of casual gamers (10 years as Atari proved previously). #2 the kinect is a treasure of technology and can easily be extended to other useful places outside gaming including business... they just need to push it and my guess is they will in the next 5 years. #3 People love underdogs and ironically, MS is now the underdog compared to Apple and Google since they have taken the mobile market. All these things usually result in a "coolness" factor that people sheep over.
