Does anyone know what is the break-even iron ore price per ton for CLF? I read somewhere saying that CLF cost to produce iron ore is higher than RIO and BHP whose cost per ton is around $40-50. Any idea on competitive advantage of CLF over its competitors?
just take a few minutes to go trough the sec filings . Cash cost for every single area (North America, Eastern Canada & Western Australia ) are given. They also give a sensitivity analysis based on 62% Fe seaborne of $150/DMT. (average price for the 62% fe seaborne for Q1 must be around $140 !). If production levels are met they should earn $.70 ! === if not ???? Mesabi gave already an indication for the Silver Bay mine( 15% less than Q1 2012) Good Luck !
My understanding is that it's about $65 for their operating mines, as others have said, but Wabush (which they are in the process of idling) is closer to $90 right now. There are all these capex plans to improve that, but they've been shelved in the past year because of low iron ore pricing.
