Gore & Clinton great leaders NOT

    REMEMBER THIS!
It was 1987! At a lecture the other day they were playing an old news
    > video of Lt.Col. Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings
    during
    > the Reagan Administration.
    >
    > There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the third degree, but
    > what he said was stunning!
    >
    > He was being drilled by a senator; "Did you not recently spend close to
    > $60,000 for a home security system?"
    >
    > Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."
    >
    > The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't
    > that just a little excessive?"
    >
    > "No, sir," continued Ollie.
    >
    > "No? And why not?" the senator asked.
    >
    > "Because the lives of my family and I were threatened, sir."
    >
    > "Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.
    >
    > "By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered.
    >
    > "Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"
    >
    > "His name is Osama bin Laden, sir" Ollie replied.
    >
    > At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't
    > pronounce it, which most people back then probably couldn't. A couple of
    > people
    > laughed at the attempt. Then the senator continued. Why are you so afraid
    > of
    > this man?" the senator asked.
    >
    > "Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of", Ollie
    > answered.
    >
    > "And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.
    >
    > "Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team
    > be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."
    >
    > The senator disagreed with this approach, and that was all that was shown
    > of the clip.
    >
    >
    > By the way, that senator was Al Gore
    >
    > Also:
    >
    > Terrorist pilot Mohammad Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986. The
    > Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo
    agreement
    > with
    > the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release so-called
    > "political prisoners."
    >
    > However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands,
    > The American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of
    > State,
    > Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released.
    >
    > Thus Mohammad Atta was freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an
    > airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center. This was reported by
    > many of the American TV networks at the time that the terrorists were
    first
    > identified. It was censored in the US from all later reports.

    • The story of Oliver North fingering Bin Laden is a legend circulating around the internet. See, for example

      http://www.snopes2.com/rumors/north.htm

I hope your DD is better than your historical skills! You and the seven dwarves that recommended your post have been duped, my friend. best, Ivory

    • I didn't want to mention this about Oliver North, but the story you told was also fabricated and now repeated by you. Incidentally, I watched these hearings on television, and knew something was wrong here:

According to the Congressional Record, there was no mention of Osama Bin Laden during the Iran-Contra hearings by Oliver North or anyone else. In fact, there was no mention of Osama Bin Laden in the Congressional Record at all in 1987, the year of the hearings.

Also, Senator Al Gore was not a member of the joint House-Senate Iran-Contra Committee and did not do any of the questioning.

One of the charges against North at that time, however, was his accepting a security system for his home as a gift. He said he needed it because of threats against himself and his family by Palestinian terrorist Abu Nidal.

Paul Bedard whose column WASHINGTON WHISPERS appears on USNEWS.com contacted North who confirmed that he never referenced Bin Laden who, in fact, became a friend of the U.S. against Soviet invaders of Afghanistan.

    • Infactoid, you use history to find support for those you already like. You do yourself and others a disservice. First, 1987 was a bit early for Oliver North to be fearing Osama Bin Laden. Al Qaeda itself was not formed until 1988. Olive North was convicted of felonies. Those felonies were overturned only because he had been given immunity and the appellate court could not tell if he was convicted based upon his immune testimony before Congress or on independently gathered evidence. Still the truth is we have repeatedly created nutcases while dealing with other outrages of the moment. Take the Russians in Afghanistan. During almost all of the 1980's (Reagan, and Bush 41) we gave aid to Osama to help fight the Russians in Afghanistan. CIA funneled arms and other support to the mujahedeen, Afghanistan's "freedom fighters". The CIA funded an underground arms depot, training facility and medical center that bin Laden helped build in 1986 near the Pakistan border. Al Qaeda itself was formed in 1988 as Reagan was leaving office. Ronald Reagan, saw Afghanistan as a potential Vietnam for the Soviets and Osama was the blow back. Osama was not seen as much of a threat to the US until Desert Storm. Another example of blow back occured in our activities in Iran and Iraq war- (Reagan-) we sided with Iraq in that one and Sadaam was our blow back. Further back, we sided with Stalin against Hitler. If I did like you, I would be chiding Reagan and Bush 41 for creating today's villains. Write this down- if Reagan had not lost his mind, he would have likely stood trial for Iran/Contra. Bush 41 claimed to be out of the loop.

Now as to the information regarding Atta- it is a fabrication. Here is the truth:

According to several news sources, including the Boston Globe, which was among those that originally published the story, this turned out to be a case of mistaken identity. An article from 9/19/01 says that Second Circuit Court of Appeals records showed that the man arrested in connection with the bus attack in Israel used an alias that was the same as the name of the hijacker, Mahmoud Atta. Even that suspect, however, was not in custody so where the story about Reagan the Oslo accords came from, we don't know. The Oslo accords were signed in 1993 and Ronald Reagan left office in 1989. Additionally, we've not been able to find any provisions in the Oslo accords as described. There were provisions for the release of a large number Palestinian prisoners.

      • Bin Laden was in existance before Al Qaeda
Israel was forced by the Clinton administration to release prisioners with "blood" on thier hands... THAT IS A FACT
Clinton did NOT strongly go after the source of the 1st WTC bombing, or the killings in Africa which has US facilities as main targets , or the Cole, all gutless Clinton did was send a few missles and NO strong force.
If Clinton had gone after the sources of the above 9/11 may not have happened.
