Compare the July 16, 2012 ALNY press release on ALN-TTR02 to its press release today on the SubQ non-LNP (so non-TKMR) TTR product. Much more detail in the ALN-TTR02 press release, and knockdown reported as 94%, 14 points higher than the 80% knockdown reported with SubQ. The press release on SubQ does not even say if there were any SAEs even though safety was the primary goal of the trial. One caveat - ALNY says additional data would be presented in September, but if they had more good data wouldn't they release it now? Overall, great day for TKMR.
Why is it a great day for TKMR. This trial does not use the TKMR LNP, and it's knockdown is good. Unfortunately, the street reads this as somewhat of a strike against TKM, since ALNY achieved good results with their home-grown delivery mechanism. The implication being that maybe other companies don't need TKM as much as TKM thinks. Not basking. This is, unfortunately, sad but true.
