    Angie's List....Yelp....etc

Got a couple more calls from an Angie's List rep. Same story, same results. They don't care if Attila the Hun comes to your house AND THEY CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT IF THEY WANTED TO, but $$$$ talks and that's a downright shame.....

    • I guess the listing fee alone doesn't pay their cost. They need to be aggressive on ads. As a service provider, do you see any ROI in placing ads? Obviously not at $350/mo since you backed out. But is there a price that you can justify ROI?

      • my son, who came aboard 8 years ago from a job at Boeing, and i have averaged 600+ jobs a year for many years. That includes 65 dollar service calls to 650+ dollar door installations. i would say that two customers a month mention they got our name off Angie's List and less than that on Yelp. We also keep a free listing on Craigslist. After 16 years in business, we also have a lot of repeat customers and get referrals from those customers. The vast majority of work comes from Google and Yellow page ads. Contrary to popular belief, phone book advertising is far from reaching dinosaur status. About ten years ago, i advertised in a small phone book called the Plaid Book. It covers Everett, Mukilteo and areas north of us. That's the only change i made in advertising and my job count went from 460 to 660 in one year. They sold out to Yellow Book a couple years ago and i pay $200 a month total for two nice sized colored ads in each of their two books, with about 350k printed and delivered books. i'm also in the Dex and Superpages/Frontier phone books. That kind of gives you an idea of our advertising budget and it's stretched to the limit right now. We're still doing the same number of jobs, but our door installations are way down....
