Although I had an extremely poor experience calling SSgA, I realize many did not have the same bad experience. But if you do have a horror story with SSgA or any other customer service nightmare, feel free to share your account of what happened.
I called in with some fairly simple questions pertaining to GLD. It started out as a typical inquiry call should be as a rep named Brian introduced himself and offered to answer my questions. As soon as I gave out my first inquiry, I heard someone in the background repeating exactly what I said and MOCKING my accent. I could never fathom a professional point of contact pulling something like this so I thought I must have heard wrong. I went on with the call and eventually hung up after being ridiculed in the same rude manner.
Why is such behavior tolerated? Isn't SSgA a world class organization supporting a world class product? I have since been told by colleagues that 'Brian' likely forgot to put me on mute while putting me on speaker for his 'buddies'. Regardless, there is no excuse to crucify me for their own entertainment.
This begs the question: how many others have they done this to in order to satisfy their personal amusement? I can't imagine any self respecting individual tolerating such abhorrent treatment. In firms with a professional standard, this would never happen but I suppose this occurs in SSgA because they have no concern for their reputation or customers.
I've personally tried questioning SSgA on this but it seems they don't even have the integrity to reply. They're likely doing #$%$ like this to your calls. It'd be nice to have actual professionals behind GLD.
What do you expect? Answer me this? What would be the price of gold if there were no GLD, or silver and SLV. If the price of gold/silver were purely dictated by futures, where one can take physical delivery when a contract expires? These ETFs were created by the commercials to protect fiat currencies. Without ETFs gold/silver have no counter party risk.
That's right, all you dumb old farts are punching bags and deserved to be ridiculed by the good people at SSgA. Being entertainment for the rest of us is the only purpose you old stains have left. SSgA can mock you old farts all they want and there is nothing you can do about it.
I've contacted SSgA plenty in the past and never had any issues. However, I don't doubt your claim of them #$%$ on customers/clients calling in for their own amusement. I'm not sure exactly what it was but there was just an 'air' about them that makes me think they would pull something like this.
One of my less than professional experience with these people: I called in with some GLD related questions but I could barely make out what the person on the other end of the line. The background noise was extremely loud. It was almost as if they were throwing a party. The rumors of these clowns running a slop show are probably true.
