ASEI Just got a $245M contract from DHS

AS&E’s advanced imaging technology contract from TSA could reach $245 million

TSA has awarded an indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract to American Science and Engineering Inc., of Billerica, MA, to deliver an unspecified number of “second generation” Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) screening systems for use at U.S. airports, whose maximum value cannot exceed $245 million.

“The AIT-2 system provides Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) additional threat detection capabilities to locate potential threats concealed from view on a passenger,” explains the TSA’s solicitation document. “The AIT-2 system detects metallic and non-metallic anomalies such as weapons, Improvised Explosive Device (IED) components and plastic threats.”

To help reduce the overall footprint of these screening devices for use in smaller airports, TSA may buy some “reduced-sized systems,” as an alternative to the traditional “full-size systems,” says the document.

The award to AS&E was announced on September 17.

TSA indicated that it will order a “minimum” of two “Low Rate Initial Production” (LRIP) units of the AIT-2 system, and a maximum of $245 million worth of the second-generation devices.
