Hardly say that's "shooting themselves in the foot".
Most gamers are going to buy Homefront new and with the fact that 2nd hand gamers get to play through Level 5 of the multiplayer without paying it speaks to the strength of the game for them to even allow players to progress that far. DICE/EA/Battlefield didn't give gamers that option and instead locked out 2nd hand gamers.
It's hardly shooting themselves in the foot. More like giving themselves reocurring revenues for those who intend to buy the game cheaper.
Ever buy a game on E-bay used like NHL 11 or Madden 11 from EA?? You are likely buying it from a seller who used the code and you are paying $10 for a pass for that as well and guess what....the games are still selling at/near retail price when you factor in the pass = unaffected.
Sorry bud, perhaps the uneducated person who doesn't know the industry and have been now subjected to this over 2 years would buy that argument but this is the new standard in the industry and in THQ's/Kaos case highly warranted given they are using dedicated servers.
