Why is it that my local Macy's looks like such an outdated wreck? Elevators that haven't been updated since the 1970s, cracks in walls, broken and stained ceiling tiles, and a general appearence of bad repair? What's up with this "high end" retailer that doesn't care about how their stores look? Too cheap to spend money on their stores?
Not from what I've seen when I visit my local Macy's. I live in a high traffic area in Suburban New Jersey, not some forgotten and neglected area in the hinterlands. I understand that they don't want to constantly spend money on upgrading Macy's stores, but to have broken and discolored ceiling tiles, cracked walls, and an elevator that is like a time warp back to the 1970s is pretty lame. Especially when I can walk to middle-end retailers like Sears and JC Penny in the same mall, and their stores and elevators seem well maintained and modern.
