am interested to know cadence competitive position in the various markets ?
- Analog ? - Emulation ? - verification ( see below) -anything else ?
Emulation : a small market ( guess no more than 50M/year), cadence does seem to have advantages there, yet potential of market now sure.
competitors : Ikos - ment ( probably a non profitable biz-unit ) .
Verification : Cadence has a strong position in verification ( specman isbetter than competition) , this is a high potential profitable market, and due to their size+technology+ better VIP+cost-to-switch they seem to be well positioned .
competitors : mainly SNPS vcs also run questa - modelsim.
size : hmm , my guess 500M/year ( pre crisis) wonder what are the real numbers here ? cadence cut ? ( my guess around 180 M )
who are the competitors ? is it titan ? how good and how complete are they ? ( due to LAVA's position maybe they'll close it )
VoltageStorm got good reviews at Cooley . what is market size and share ?!
On analog, their competition is broader than just Titan. Due to the open-source OpenAccess database becoming the standard, Cadence's competition becomes 1) Internal CAD groups who can customize a solution much better than Cadence, and provide a no-royalty path moving forward 2) Small companies (Pulsic,Silicon Navigator,micromagic,...) 3) Synopsys
I personally think that OA would become one factor in Cadence's downfall, by helping to erode the margins of what used to be a very profitable business for them.
