Anybody have any ideas what's causing this sudden updraft? AVID is up nearly $2.50/sh, and the move happened this afternoon.

    • because this is a no-brainer stock at this price.
Word has it that certain key analysts have begun to
express new interest in this stock, and that if delivery
of specific technologies related to the Avid Unity
initiative are on target, that edge servers for the internet
could be a big component of future valuations of this
company. Also, the introduction of the as a
portal for content creators finally leverages Avid's
most important real estate asset - the desktop of the
50,000+ Avid systems in use worldwide. Bottom
line......this baby is going up, and I wouldn't be surprised if
it goes up a lot right before NAB in April,
      IMO......but do your own research......

      • We own two Avids and utilize them every day.
They're both Mac based and have been very reliable. One
is AVR 77, the other AVR 75. The reason that a lot
of studios aren't buying new Avids is because the
choices are so limited. You need to basically start over
and pay for a whole new software set when you buy a
G4, and you still need to buy a chassis for the G4 to
run all the boards that Avid requires. And, most Mac
editors would still prefer to use a Mac based system over
the lower end Pentium version. Most studios can't
afford a Symphony and don't need it unless they're doing
high end broadcast work. So, I think a lot of edit
houses are going to stay put at least until NAB before
they plunk down hard earned dollars on a new system.
