It is funny. All of the actions taken by Argentinian officials only appear to be cause to not proceed with the project there. Better to write off 2 Billion on the project than to spend an extra 5 Billion and still have to deal with their officials.
Just returned from Argentina and one can see "false" pride impacting many government decisions. Let's hope that sanity prevails and with VE's Hugo Chavez gone (he was an inspiration here for many government officials) sounder political decisions are made that will support economic growth. Every time I return to Argentina, I am saddened by the poverty when this country has so much to offer. Just look next door at Chile and see how the average citizen can rise from poverty to reasonable living conditions. It just takes good leadership. In the meantime, Vale should negotiate the best deal possible to continue this project with its tremendous long term potential.
Both countries have socialist governments. And the problem with socialism is they always take and spend other peoples money. And the tougher things get the more they take. Eventually the money runs out and that's when the game is over.
