Please understand that should NYB ever decide to reduce its dividend or retain it current dividend it will result in a win-win situation for the shareholders: 1. IF REDUCED: stock jumps 2 points due to wall street approval that NYB will improve its dividend cover. 2. IF RETAINED: shareholder continues to receive exceptionally big dividend
Furthermore, as I messaged several weeks ago, you can expect very soon an announcement from NYB that they have acquired a sizeable bank that will immediately be accretive to their bottom line. I say this with absolutely no proof or inside information other than my confidence in the business savvy of NYB's management. There will not be another opportunity like the current one to buy profit on the cheap.
i think that if we have an assisted merger ( and i want to remember that fdic said that now there are more than 550 banks with big problems) the price in jan. could be ar 22-25. and the dividend could be 3-4 %. right now the price is 4 -5 $ less than in aug. 2008. and the s& p is in line with sug. 2008.
