1.Bidu IPO was set at $27 a share on IPO day (August 5 2005) 2.It opened at $66 and went to a high of $153. 3.The next day the intra-day high was at $155 4.The rest of the year it drifted all the way back to $76 by December.
Remember, it has split 10:1 since then, making the IPO price (if one held on until now) a high of $1530.
Visa did something similar. I recall its ipo was listed at $45 then opened at $63ish. Ran to $90 and pulled back since then. I think it depends sometime on how many shares are sold on the open market plus demand will drive the hot ipo s. Think I might ride the renn train. Would like to get it around $12.
