y, i was just kidding about banning google from china. speaking of google, i just used their translation program on your link. man, that thing's gotten good.
goog's such a smart company; i def need to bolster my holdings over there. i've had a buy in at $571 since the earnings report, but i'm having trouble sticking to my guns on that number.
Guys, be realistic!
BIDU's Yi is NOT a mobile OS, it's an 'app platform'.
If android is banned in China, so will ‘Yi'.
China currently, and for the next 5 yrs, has no capability to do a mobile OS, from the ground up.
This is the smartest guy in China, and he said:
i also read that china is slowly blocking android OS, which will be better for both apple and baidu OS
I hope so, but I'm keeping my optimism on Baidu Yi guarded for the following reasons:
1. Goog and Aapl have a pretty big headstart in smart phone sales in China. There's even a rumor that aapl might be teaming with china mobile, which would give them 'first crack' at chl's 900 million subscribers.
2. Since we're basically just pirating goog's droid platform, we can't offer any options that goog's can't immediately match.
3. Dell sucks. I admit that's a personal, not an analytical, conclusion, but I've owned that stupid company 3 separate times in my life and it tanked on me every time (grrrr).
Given the large upside 4Q revenue guidance given last night, I don't like that they're not raising 4Q earnings estimates.
What is www.qiyi.com, anyway? I couldn't find an English language of that site. Is it the music file sharing site? Why does Collins Stewart seem to worry that it could be as much as a 5.5 cent drag on earnings next quarter?
