Baidu, Inc. Message Board

mobile pressure on the horizon = short term selloff !

In a report released today, Macquarie’s analysts said that they expect Baidu’s fourth quarter results to be “solid.” They do however, see mobile putting downward “pressure on Baidu’s revenues in the near term.”
The transition to mobile will also increase Baidu’s costs, the analysts say.
Still, they believe much of the risk has been priced into the stock at its current level and “present value to the longer-term investor.” Sounds like they expect a short-term selloff

Doesn't it make u feel when u read this note that every1 on this board that has an ounce of a brain knows this. In my opinion if that is the case..the market is not expecting a sell-off now but has already priced this in at 109. Im hoping that this can mean an upside surprise for the longs or a rude awakening for the longs if Baidu brings other bad news to the table on February 4th. Right now I guess it is anybody's guess. My opinion from seeing the results of the US companies is that Baidu will beat.

      • Fred,
I agree with you that nobody on this board knows what the company will say on Feb 4th.
Bidu has 80% of the rapidly growing Chinese market, PC and mobile combined. Both it and its samll competitors are in the process of figuring out how to make money with mobiles. So it is not a competitive issue. it is not even a profit issue. The growth will be in the 50% range.
Bidu management was smart to fatten up its war chest recently at very low borrowing cost, so any development costs would not affect profit margins by much. Keep in mind, all the new projects are beneficial ones for the company.
It is an execution issue that people here is playing a guessing game. Nobody knows.
Chartwise, the stock is rangebound between the 13 and 200 EMA. It broke through the 200 EMA this a.m. and met stiff resistance. This is the second try in two weeks. The 13 EMA still holds support as we type.
