I do know they reported better then expected
earnings last quarter, they are reporting on 13 Oct 99 and
the whisper is out on them to beat estimates also.
Along with getting an upgrade from Lehman's today, they
also received an initial accumulate rating from
Friedman today. I would suspect the upgrade and initial
coverage was the reason for the huge volume today, along
with the prospect for another good earnings quarter.
Can't help anymore then that bud. Regards, Ken

That's a cute joke, right??
acquirers stock prices have been slammed recently with
merger announcements. Example, Fifth Third announcing
the acquisition of CNB. Fifth's stock price went down
8% in the following week. Plus, that was in June,
the financial markets are a little more 'unstable'
now (as far as financial/bank stocks). It's tough for
bank stocks recently (to put it mildly); when was the
last successful bank IPO? You can't sell a bank IPO
today, they are all waiting until Q1 2000, at
Secondly, pooling of interests accounting is supposed to
end on 12/31/2000. So, there could be a rush of
mergers by the end of 2000. At this point a merger is a
bad deal for the acquirer and the acquired. It makes
absolutely no sense.
Third, I hope for your benefit
that you're not securities licensed. Floating such a
rumor (whether you think it's nonsense, or whether you
think it's true) is a violation of securities
regulations/laws. If you're not securities licensed, it's still not
the right message to place in/on a message board.
