IMO the rapid swings of late in individual stocks and the general market are in many cases attributable to moves by market pros to sucker the small fry either to buy an overpriced stock that they are shorting, or to sell a stock cheap that they are planning to accumulate. I have seen this primarily in small caps I follow. In such cases the stocks rise or fall dramatically on no evident news. I don't know if this is setting up for a new bull or bear trend; it is just something I have been noticing most of this year. IMO it takes discipline and guts not to be whipsawed by these pros. Only time will tell if decisions made were correct.
