UCB's Chief Financial Officer Detlef Thielgen said, "A lot of avenues have opened up for companies like us, because small biotech companies are under pressure and prices are at more reasonable levels," he told Dow Jones Newswires.
But whether an eventual deal is secured, will depend if it's a good strategic asset for UCB
One or more EMEA and FDA Cimzia approval announcements are pending and could come at any time.
tanezumab (PFE) is much more valuable than Cimzia (no cross licensing, so royalyies will be closer to 2%, also stands to have higher sales).
Cimzia would be nice for loan purposes, but is not a gold mine.
>Cimzia not a goldmine<
UCB may disagree.
WHAT UCB SAYS: Cimzia has the potential to become a blockbuster drug, which means reaching sales around $1 billion per year.
The Crohn's disease treatment is a $1 billion market, while rheumatoid arthritis is estimated to be worth around $4 billion in sales for drugs comparable with Cimzia.
Cimzia has a price advantage, as UCB priced it 5% lower for Crohn's disease in the U.S. than Abbott Laboratories' Humira, the closest competitor. The drug retails at about $1,300 for one month's treatment.

Golf humor from the Ford board. >
Sent on a golf tour in Newfoundland, Tiger Woods drives his new Ford Fusion into a petrol station in a remote part of the countryside.
The pump attendant, obviously knows nothing about golf, greets him in a typical Newfoundlander manner completely unaware of who the golfing pro is.
“Top of the mornin’ to yer, sir” says the attendant.
Tiger nods a quick “hello” and bends forward to pick up the nozzle.
As he does so, two tees fall out of his shirt pocket onto the ground.
“What are dose?” Asks the attendant.
“They’re called tees,” replies Tiger.
“Well, what on god’s earth are dey for?” inquires the attendant.
“They’re for resting my balls on when I’m driving”, says Tiger.
“Lardthunderin!”, says the Newfoundlander, “Ford tinks of everyting!”
