It seems like there's at least 2 things we'd all like to know:
1. How much will the dividend be?
2. When will it be announced?
All replies are encouraged: info, discussion, speculation, rumor, guesses, whatever.
BACKGROUND: Here's the 2/23 Conf Call comments RE: a quarterly dividend:
"Now shareholder value initiatives, we reiterate to believe that a dividend once initiated should be sustainable over the long term. Previously our preferred method of declaring or remitting dividend was to declare an annual dividend soon after the annual filing of 20th.
But we are changing our minds largely due to investor feedback. We now intend to declare remit dividends on a quarterly basis, we will not wait till the 20th as filed to do so although we are not prepared to make a definitive announcement on dividend at this time. There will be a separate dividend announcement in the next weeks. So please stay tuned for that separate announcement in the next few weeks."
Does anyone know what's meant by "the annual filing of 20th" in the quote from the CC?
It goes on to say "We now intend to declare remit dividends on a quarterly basis, we will not wait till the 20th as filed to do so".
What filing is he talking about? An SEC filing, or what?
In the November cc call the company said they wanted to issue the
annual divy in conjunction with the 20F which is filed about the
third week of April so they could get the maximum benifit with the filing. Then in the Feb cc, they changed all that, but it's exactly
what they are doing, it just won't be the .10 announcement imo.
Doesn't matter, establishing a smooth div. record is better then jumping up 1 Q then down another.
.02 /.04 then a one time bounus round deffinately moves the stock up.
EXAMPLE - FMNB they were at $4.50 when they went on NAZ been around and on Pk. since 1887 have paid out a few cents for many years, .03 then they announced a few moves like buying a Trust Co, establishing an Ins. Co, expanding into Brokerage and now are $6.49 acually went up .01 today as many stocks took a bath. NNLX is another that went up today, .01 - On verge of FED approval of their new tech. on virus / disease detection that is 10 to 50% faster the normal petri dish, .50 sh. and will baloon to .$5. once FDA approves testing IMHO. all as Mkt. went down biggest amount for 2012 so far.
Everything you said is correct. The difference being is with this dividend announcement, the price will continue to go up after the correction since this year's div will be quarterly vs annual.
Could really care less what happens to price week to week as long as the company's still churning profits and giving quarterly divs. Common sense will eventually reach the market and the price will go up.
I totally agree.
And I think switching to quarterly divs is a great idea because it's like an every 3 months reminder, the company just keeps screaming, "Hey, world, see this? We're not a fraud!" until somebody, hopefully, listens.
The pop then was likely due to confidence being raised that XIN isn't a fraud. I am really hoping something similar happens this time around. The Div announcements offer a bit of security and ease.
I'd rather it not be more than .03 a quarter, or .12 a year. This way they can set enough money aside for more stock buybacks.
However, if they wanted to give me $1.00 a share each quarter, I would not object :o)
Thanks for reposting here. I'd like to see the dividend discussion survive until it happens.
As to the .03 number, maybe you're right that that's a good number to think about, so as to be pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed.
But back in May, XIN declared a 10 cent dividend, in what was basically a quarterly declaration exactly like this one, so maybe there's reason to secretly hope for more. May Press Release: http://ir.xyre.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=217254&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1568138&highlight=
