August 10th is the Earnings date for XIN

Generally speaking, does the mere fact that an earnings report occurs on a Friday carry any meaning (e.g., trying to use the weekend break to limit the price drop due to bad news)?

    • I do not think so. Anybody willing to sell shares they can do the whole Friday; in fact I believe Friday will see more buyers then sellers.

    • No, it doesn't matter. Almost nobody announces between Friday afternoon and Monday mornings only because nobody's at their desks during those hours.

Thursday's the most often selected day for ER's. I once read an interesting article in Barrons suggesting that (for whatever reason), Tues PM announcements seemed to be treated the best on a price vs surprise basis.

    • just Friday earnings question on google. Found an academic article with testing. Lore says yes. Data says no -- Friday did not correlate with bad news.

Article also looked at after hours announcement - yes - sometimes - it correlated with bad news. Other factors, complexity of company, analysts following, headquarter location also influenced.

Bottom line for XIN -- Friday before Market = neutral to potentially positive. Just as likely that headquarters in China matters (time change for market con call -- most convenient for Market and Management = AM).
