First let me state the facts as we heard them; if it wasn't for Mother Nature (Super Storm Sandy,) we would have hit the EPS on the mark. Even with S.S.S. revenue was up yoy. UPS underestimated the stupidity of the socialist EU and gambled away $.25bil. But analysts always look at forward earnings. When we would beat the estimates the share price would tumble that day because the forward statements were lower than what the analysts expected.
Now, forget about 2012 and look at the year ahead. Buying back somewhere around 50 mil shares automatically earns the company an estimated $0.30 a share (do the math, I did already.) The Congress approved the S.S.S. bill for some $50+ bil and transportation is going to play a large part of rebuilding the East Coast. UPS is going to receive more and more US Government work, we will win the bid on the current US-FDX contract. Military spending in 2013 will be tremendous and we will be in the game and that too.
The forced cuts to the USPS will be a gain for UPS, that's a fact. Rolling over cost cuts from 2012 into 2013 will earn the company millions in earnings, another fact. 2013 is going to be the best year for this economy going back at least five years.
