    Is hiring veterans really a good idea?

    They have served our country well. It would seem that they are well disciplined.
    I have the utmost respect for them.

    In the recent months, I caught an employee making up stories about another
    employee in my company. Was his motive possibly to gain more profitable routes? I will
    never know for sure but I can not stand a foul mouthed liar working for me. He also
    lacked in other areas of competency.

    Sadly, he was retired military and I've noticed that veterans seem to have a common
    pattern of disrespect for others. Or maybe I keep hiring the wrong ones )
    I feel horrible having to let anyone go and it's also expensive to hire some one else to
    replace his position. In the end it's wise to preserve morale than allow inethical behavior
    to persist.

    • We all know what goes on in the baracks. Their environment is not at all professional, they treat each other dirt, so why did you think they would magically turn into professionals when they retire from the military?! Duh! I worked with an ex marine while working as a civil engineer. What a disrespectful self-centered jerk and definitely not a team player. Wihin a week or two after his first day he acted like he ran the place. He refused to participate in a team meetings and insisted on doing things his own way. Don't think he backstabbed anyone just an a.hole to work with.

    • Where did this stuff come from? Trying to gain a more profitable route? Sometimes it would nice for if some posters to simply post on their own bathroom walls.
