Yeah I know and I agree. One of my jobs is to oversee the budgets for several county departments. The absolute best value for your money is local taxes. Very little waste at this level, here anyway.
I noticed that in the last few years the presidential spending on vacations has gotten lots of press. Where were these "budget hawks" six years ago when presidential vacation spending was threefold?
Another concept: When you divide the interest on our federal debt by fifty states and then divide by the number of school districts in your state[you must prorate for population], the people in each school district are shelling out enough to build a brand new secondary school every year. You know how hard it is to get a building referendum through[thank god] We are wasting that much power every year just to finance a war machine, which started 31 years ago. Just for stroking our egos. This is the elephant in the room, the Joint Chiefs don't even want that much spending. Got to end it here. Thanks for boiling with me.
...don't forget wasteful spending ($468M) on global warming (green study) studies in other parts of the world, what a foolish waist that will be! Our government waists more money in one minute, than most of us will make in a life time. Like the last poster, I don't mind paying my fair share of taxes, but when our government throws it away by the billions, it's hard to get behind them... BTW: I wasn't referring to the 'poor' as in the hard 'working poor', my family was part of that group, I was referring to the parasites that live off the government in free handouts and expect the government to take care of them, i.e., like the stupid woman that said she'd vote for Obama, because he would pay her rent!
"2. Very obvious. AGNC pays out a dividend every 3 months."
Not at all obvious, since last quarter they moved the date by 2 weeks and, for option traders, that can make a lot of difference. But for stock buyers too. This has been discussed here and, at a minimum, it would seem useful to give someone who asked the current state of opinion here (which is uncertainty).
I wish you the best on your spiritual journey. I commend you for undertaking one, even though yours is different from mine.
If you see pride in my behavior, then you would also find it in Jesus, all those times he got upset about hypocrisy -- as in those who "say, and do not do" (Matt 23:1-5). (No, I am not equating myself with Jesus).
"Prayer, fasting, vigil and all other Christian activities, however good they may be in themselves, do not constitute the aim of our Christian life, although they serve as the indispensable means of reaching this end. The true aim of our Christian life consists in the acquisition of the Holy Spirit of God. As for fasts, and vigils, and prayer, and almsgiving, and every good deed done for Christ's sake, they are only means of acquiring the Holy Spirit of God. But mark, my son, only the good deed done for Christ's sake brings us the fruits of the Holy Spirit. All that is not done for Christ's sake, even though it be good, brings neither reward in the future life nor the grace of God in this. That is why our Lord Jesus Christ said: He who gathers not with Me scatters (Luke 11:23). Not that a good deed can be called anything but gathering, since even though it is not done for Christ's sake, yet it is good. Scripture says: In every nation he who fears God and works righteousness is acceptable to Him (Acts 10:35).
"The soul speaks and converses during prayer, but at the descent of the Holy Spirit we must remain in complete silence, in order to hear clearly and intelligibly all the words of eternal life which He will then deign to communicate. Complete soberness of both soul and spirit, and chaste purity of body is required at the same time. The same demands were made at Mount Horeb, when the Israelites were told not even to touch their wives for three days before the appearance of God on Mount Sinai. For our God is a fire which consumes everything unclean, and no one who is defiled in body or spirit can enter into communion with Him."
1. You do realize that this is a yahoo message board. In order to access the message board, one has to go on yahoo. In fact the historical data button is a couple buttons above the message board button...
2. Very obvious. AGNC pays out a dividend every 3 months.
As for being a good Christian or not, we all possess a mind yes? That is what sets us apart and led us to our current position. However, the mind has a taint, the shadow side. With that taint all humans are capable of great evil, NO SUCH THING AS A GOOD OR EVIL PERSON.
The only good comes from the SPIRIT.
I was an evil rageful man who was an atheist. Then by fate at a young age I was forced to face my mortality. It led to such terror and pain that I wished I had never been born. I prayed to God and in that process, in that stillness, I felt the mind dissolve, the body disappeared, and for the first time in my life, I felt the peace of God.
It created a profound change and I have not been the same since. Everything in this universe is doomed to death, even the seemingly immortal stars. The only thing eternal, was the SPIRIT I felt.
I cannot say that I consider myself a Christian because I do not know. I am willing to say I do not know anything.
Now put aside your pride, and by the Grace of God, you too will experience the SPIRIT.
1. That's Yahoo, not "the website". Were you born knowing that one should got to Yahoo for that information? Or did someone tell you at some point? Or did you find that out in a few seconds?
2. So if you had looked at this Yahoo page what would your prediction be? Is it obvious?
Sorry if I said you claimed to be a good Christian and you hadn't. Whenever there are discussions here about religion we see a lot of pious statements, but when a stranger to the board arrives asking a beginner's questions we don't see a lot of interest in helping him -- rather, we see a lot of mocking. I see a disconnect in that. Maybe it's my problem.
BTW -- I do not claim that one should be helpful to others because some religion says so. I think we should be helpful because we will have a better society if we act that way, and everyone wins. But since Christianity also preaches it, I find it hypocritical to talk at length about passages in the Bible while not acting the way Jesus preached.
It took one click of the mouse.
And where did I say I was a good Christian? You, my friend are taking this way too personally. Take a valium and book a vacation to Hawaii.
