    • There is no shortage. High oil prices are being manipulated, and soon there will be a new world order on oil........All of the major oil using countries around the world are going to come up standards/rules on consumption/demand. What you will see is car manufacturers around the world will be required to build vehicles averaging 50+mpg by a certain year, and growth in China and India will soon be slowed. Plus drilling in Brazil, North Dakota, Montana, Alaska, the Gulf, and other areas around the world will be mandated and put on the fast track.
A very promising idea for the US is to have the US Government work with one of the car manufacturers (probably GM, since they are more involved in defense manufacturing than the others, and oil prices are really a part of national security), build a basic small compact hybrid that will seat 4 people, and get between 60 and 80 mpg, and they will sell it at a discount to the US population for around 12 grand to reduce gas consuption by about 50% in the United States, very rapidly moving us to energy independence.

      • The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will save that malfunctioning corporation called the USA. Greed forces better change.

      • Here's Ford with a better idea. They build the Escape hybrid, but are limiting production to 25000/yr. This car sells BEFORE it reaches the dealer lot, so why the curtailed production? To keep prices high? These guys are so typical of the domestic automakers...can't even figure out how to capitalize on today's high oil prices. I don't lose sleep over their financial woes anymore...they deserve it.
