Lunguya Gold Project - Tanzanian Royalty Website Updates

    Location
The Lunguya property is located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields area within one of the principal Archaean greenstone belts of Tanzania. It lies about 30 km south of Barrick Gold's Bulyanhulu mine, the major underground mine in Tanzania.

    Geology
These particular greenstone rocks host most of the gold mines and deposits in Tanzania and are similar both geologically and in terms of age to the greenstones of northern Ontario and Quebec where gold production has been ongoing for almost a century. The Nyamakwenge and Nyikoboko quartz veins at Lunguya appear to be small shear zones in the granites, however, their proximity to a regional granite/greenstone contact 15-30 km from the Bulyanhulu gold mine suggests that they may be indicators of more extensive gold mineralization in the vicinity.

The entire granite/greenstone contact zone within the Lunguya property remains the prime area of potential for significant gold mineralization. In fact, evidence suggests the existence of the Bulyanhulu trend on the Lunguya Project which the Company hopes to confirm with further exploration. Numerous veins on the Lunguya property have been exploited by artisanal miners to at least 30m in depth which is probably one of the most definitive indicators of gold potential on any property.

    Work Programs and Results
Initial sampling of vein material in 2002 from artisanal waste dumps left by indigenous miners, demonstrated the presence of well-mineralized samples from the old workings. In fact, the site contains more than 200 of these small pits and shafts, ranging from 1 to 20 metres in depth. Of 125 grab samples collected, 43% returned grades exceeding five grams per tonne and 15% exceeded 10 grams per tonne. (See News Release, September 6, 2002).

In 2000, a regional airborne magnetic and radiometric survey was flown over the Lunguya Project area. Following a detailed review of the geophysical data, Tanzanian Royalty carried out a gold exploration program consisting of conventional soil and auger sampling, biogeochemical (BGC) sampling, geological mapping and rock sampling, ground magnetic and IP surveys and RAB, RC and some diamond drilling.
