In the quarter ending 9/30/11 institutional ownership of K12 grew sharply. In fact of the top 10 institutional owners 9 of them increased their position, one decreased and one stayed the same. Here are the numbers:
There has now been a new institution entering the stage. Macquarie Group Limited of Sydney, Australia has filed a 13G which indicates that they now own 4,818,803 shares or 13.2% of K12. That makes them the 2nd biggest shareholder after Milken.
Since I can find no indication that they previously owned shares they must have been and avid buyer over the past few months. It will be interesting to see how K12's institutional ownership changed over that time period while the stock fell. Was it just retail investors bailing or were there some large holders also exiting? Institutions owned over 75% of K12 as of Sept. 30, 2011. The number should be updated relatively soon. I know I took advantage to scoop up a large number of shares below 20.
