I saw this activity a few months ago with Genworth. There would be a spike upwards, then it would level off. Then there would be another spike. Pretty soon, the stock started opening with a gap upward. The interesting thing with Genworth was that at that time, it had no tangible book value and people were talking about bankrupcty. But they started to set aside huge pools of cash and worked on getting their short term financing situation square. When that was resolved, the stock soared.
