The money is in part to protect Nina against Apple and Siri. I know Nuance has the legal ground but there is another war at the consumer appearance level. As it stands 99% of America thinks Apple created Siri - that Nina is knockoff of Siri. It will take money to change this appearance - when Nina is used by 1,000 companies - 30% will have "siri's" voice (of 40 choices) - appearance will change. This is the pathway to future voice spoken ads and consumer data collection. It is a huge deal and while I knew about the technology the company (and future mobile concept) fell in my lap with the correction.
Also, just my thoughts but the company is likely for sale but Apple and Google don't want the core healthcare business. They just want the interface with apps and web for the Mobile revolution. Likely why we see the spin off language in the debt offering.
