There are a lot of insurance companies with high book values compared to their stock price. Is there anywhere in the financials of each company to look to see if the figures are legitimate?I believe Kansas city life is an excellent company. But can you trust the book value number?
Book value per Yahoo key statistics is now $61.58.
You can look at the balance sheet and see that it contains no "intangible assets". I think that is a good sign that the balance sheet is conservative. KCLI has also been making small amounts of stock buybacks which I would consider another good sign.
Disclosure: I am long KCLI and trying to buy more at $29.00
