VZ makes an smart move to get rid of a liability and focus on core businesses! Read the article again -
"Verizon said divesting VIS through a spin-off, sale or other strategic transaction, is aimed at sharpening its focus on three core network-based businesses in the wireless, broadband and enterprise markets."
I just heard a news report that VIS will be sold for 19 billion dollars. Didn't pick up any more details. Why sell it? If it isn't making money, who would pay that kind of money for it? Maybe the question should be that of future profitability. Whereas I would use yellow pages maybe a few years ago, I tend to use them a lot less now that I can get on line. I agree though that it pays to shop around. I just saw a bottle of KJ on their website for $45 bucks that I purchased in a COSCO the other day for only $20. Now that was worth the trip out of the house!
I agree with you, this is a great move on Verizon's part. Lets face it, the stock has been stagnant and this can only help. Will we wind up with shares of the spinoff? Sometimes, the spinoffs end up outperforming the parent company. I can't see why anyone would object to this strategic move by Verizon. I hope they go through with it.
