so are you saying that the union should just settle? or hold out for higher wages? You are not clear in what side you are arguing. And being that wages are probably last on the list of things at the table what is the point?
you know it kills me when the righties complain about unions but say nothing about corporate welfare. banks get more int. on their excess reserves from the fed but mom and pop savers get nothing on their money except neg. returns after inflation. oil companies get gov. welfare. banks got a bailout and borrow for nothing and play the spread. it goes on and on as the middle class gets beaten down.
Your union supported democrats are the ones who signed the fair trade act which allowed union corporations to leave America which put Americans out of work so those mom and pop stores lost money and their businesses so don't blame the righties, blame the unions and their paid supporters. it started to show itself in that 1989 strike when you returned to back to work Weren't some of your job titles eliminated? They where going to India and non union workers right here in America. So actually some of your union dues are working against it members.
Any union member working at VZ and hired after the 2003 contract has no layoff protection. The union gave that up in 2003. Whether it happens this time or not eventually the only union members left at VZ will not have any layoff protection so they might as well just eliminate it for everyone now.
I take no position either (management or union, my post was to shed some light on potential losses when employees elect to strike. It might make more sense for the Union and Management to agree on some items acceptable to both parties, and while the employees are still working continue negotiations on the most contentious issues which by the way might never been resolved. BUT THE EMPLOYEES ARE STILL GETTING A SALARY.
