Another poster on As Techica was talking about this, and it actually makes a lot of sense and it's something I'd thought about before. Essentially, it's that the SoCs of the future will incorporate shrunken versions of current dedicated technologies, i.e ARM cores to run the operating system, GPUs for heavy FPU lifting, and X86 cores for legacy application support. Using high-end power gating, the unused cores would go cold unless they were expressly called to perform certain functions. Realistically though, it would be the X86 core that would be idle most of the time.
The biggest advantage that AMD has right now is the fact that their GPU architecture has excellent GPGPU capabilities while also being the only fully open architecture on the market. This is the reason that all the console makers adopted it. It allows them to program for an open architecture and extend it in any way that they need to without having to deal with licensing fees and other closed source nonsense.
Android is based on FOSS as well, and ARM cores with Radeon GPUs are going to be a very hot commodity for Google. And as soon as the peanut gallery starts screaming how great Tegra is, guess what? The Nexus 10 does't use it. AMD ARMHD will be the SoC o choice for high end tablet as soon as they're released. Intel will continue to try to bend the market to its will ad will slowly but surely decline because of it.
Can AMD modulate a plasma TV ? Or is the infrared eye in the TV, ie., as in the "channel changer" receiver in the TV, is the infrared the only electromagnetic spectrum which is modulated (or projected) into other wavelengths of the EMS ??
The only thing AMD CPUs and GPUs can effectively modulate is the size of your sphincter opening, fanboi.
Dell already has ARM-based servers...using Marvell ARM CPUs. Samsung has been working on its ARM server CPU design for many quarters with early preview technology for ARM64, which AMD is only just receiving.
AMD is a second rate "me too" x86 vendor, a second rate "I wish" GPU vendor and is now trying to become a second rate ARM Server CPU vendor, up against much better competitors. Bankruptcy in 2 quarters.
