NO, NO. The Flash Crash proved how treacherous they can be. If market makers see a bunch of stop-loss and/or stop limit orders, they can in a thinly trading market hit the stops and buy very cheaply at your loss. These stop orders do not guarantee that you will be able to sell at your selected price, as the market may plummet past you.
Jack, thanks for the great information as always. I've only been heavily invested in the market for the past couple of years, so this info. sure does come in handy. I hope you don't mind me picking your brain once in a while :-) Right now the bulk of my investments are in Linn.
