My husband ( who knows I trade, but has no idea what stocks I am trading day to day ) says at dinner..."I'm going to cancel NFLX." He goes on to say that he got an email yesterday saying that they are raising our subscription price by a buck.
I explained to him that I trade NFLX so I knew about the increase in fees and it was my understanding that the raise didn't take affect until January. I said its only $8.99 or so but he explained that its more for having 2 movies out at a time ( $14.99 I think going to $15.99 .. i dont pay much attention to the bills).
Anyway I explained to him that they are trying to move away from mail to downloading at which point he says - "we don't have the machine, I don't want to buy one and they don't have the content yet."
I then told him that I have made enough money on nflx to pay for the subscription for the rest of our lives - his reaction was - he didnt care. He said he would cancel when the fee increase took effect.
I thought he USED to run a hedge fund...not currently. I could understand an agenda then, but wouldn't his company then have some capacity to manipulate and have an inside track?
I have been in the market for almost 2 years...though watched it off and on for ablout 10 years.
I never referred to anything as "ultimate wisdom." I wouldn't...the only ultimate wisdom I believe in is The Golden Rule.
Leaving for the day...Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
So more climb on the negative band wagon. Only tells me that they cannot come up with anything new, so they respin the old news and add a few new twists. Like making an old cocktail with the same ingredients instead of using a lime they use a lemon instead.
Please you can do better than that pandy.
Oppy, it's not the same. They are all dated 11/24-today-and they are current evaluations with an updated spin...using some info that we have heard before, but that have a newer interpretation on the future of NFLX.
What can be gleaned that is especially relevant is the overall change from positive to negative tones and more frequent negative expectations. I don't expect anyone to agree immediately...but you dismiss the growing body of this information as irrelevant at your own peril.
Yeah, it's the same rehash as how 28 day window on new releases was going to kill NFLX or how the increase in postage stamp was going to kill NFLX or how the 5 day mail instead of 6 days will kill NFLX. That's all I heard in the past 7-8 months on this board.
Just think, for $10 per month, I get both NFLX AND Hulu. Cable operators can't beat this deal...!
Amazon and iTunes have been around for quite some time. Yet, NFLX has been able to co-exist with them. I like Redbox too. It compliments my NFLX sub when I have an urge for DVD now.....
Overall, NFLX competitors are 'fragmented'. There's not ONE with an ecosystem like NFLX community.
can anyone please tell me why nflx is the most hated, reviled company in america?
Reed hastings seems like a decent and nice guy. Sure, he's flushed the treasury for mucho stock options at a buck and a half but at least the others are paying 20, 30 or 40 bucks a share.
u simply dont listen or are dense. Hastings sells stock then uses debt to buy it back via his company, uses actors to mislead investors of Canadian streaming launch, misleads investors on extent of streaming subs, uses free subs to overstate growth, takes email for Q&A on EPS calls, mocks americans....any thing else?
LOL. Nice story, basher!
Just six days ago, you were talking about 'head and shoulder top'. Anyone who says this was shorting NFLX. Ooops.
Now, you wouldn't have to be pandorabella with a new alias, uh? (wink). There are one too many aliases on this board who is sooo desperate to make a buck shorting NFLX. LOL
Nice try though!
Next basher, please.....
>>we don't have the machine, I don't want to buy one and they don't have the content yet."
they have like 200,000 titles available. entire series are available.
your husband sounds like a perfect candidate for $200 a month cable. lots of content and he already has the machine.
let us know how it works out.
We already have 200.00 a month cable - doesn't everyone? Thats part of the point - canceling cable isn't an option you want the premium channels for shows - like Dexter. You can argue with me all you want - as I said - I've made a fortune on this stock. But imagine how normal people are going to react to this increase. I can't short this - i tried, so I am not short- i am just not buying this thing for awhile. Good luck to you - lol
Don't mean to be Rude but your Husband is CHEAP! My advice is to hide some of that money you made for yourself cause if a $1 Buck has such an effect on your husband I can imagine the type of gifts and vacations he must be spending on you. No offense, but it's just a $1 for crying out loud!
Yesterday , I made 1200.00 trading nflx and my husband works on wall street so we don't have to worry about money. The point is that if he feels this way - watch out this thing is going down - and you can see it in the price action today. You can't even short this stock, there are no shares available. You are looking at a top , you can see it, you can feel it and there is a fundamental reason for it.
